Photographer Comment: The azalea’s natural habitat is China, Taiwan and Japan. In 1774 the plant was first brought to Belgium by Ghent master gardener Judocus Huytens. Its renown was initiated by the Ghent Floralies of 1808. The Ghent region is very well suited for the production of azaleas thanks to its: temperate sea climate, permeable soil, water quality.
