Robert Farber's Comments on the Winning Images

Assignment 27 - Self Portrait

We have a lot of new members, so we thought it time once again for everyone to meet each other. This is how our members showed us their best side or, more importantly, that part of their personalities we though might even be hidden from themselves. The key to the assignment: We don't have to know so much what you look like as who you really are.

Your participation in all the PHOTOWORKSHOP.COM Weekly Assignments, Photo Workshop Book Series, Double Exposure challenge, PPA Education Merit Program and Assignment Central can hep improve your skills as a photographer, and showcasing your winning images offers the recognition.

Alexander Knisely - 1st Place

What a great looking dramatic image, and that is without what Alexander is stating as a self-portrait . I really like that this is far removed from what would be expected as a visual of the photographer's face, while it says it all with the ghostly image. Congratulations on this special image, taking first place.

Bob Garas - 2nd Place

I love the fluidity of this image along with the composition of the fingers, the lighting, the black and white, and just enough of his face intensely looking into the camera. It all works together to create a very dramatic self-portrait.

Istvan Kadar - 3rd Place

The frolicking nature of what seems to look like a scarecrow in the field against the drama of the sky, expresses it all in this self-portrait by Istvan.

Ian Witlen - 4th Place

In this self-portrait, the screaming open mouth expresses the intensity that Ian is trying to portray about himself. This along with the lighting as part of the object is also enhanced by the triangular composition that is created within the total image, a very unique self-portrait.

Jacequeline Rinaldini - 5th Place

In this self-portrait there is a nice use of a backdrop and propping along with the lighting to bring a more straight forward approach. What could also enhance this image is the use of the lamp to light the subject.

Gregory Brown- 6th Place

Beautifully lit, great composition with attention to detail. And that detail is delicately lit and enhances this self-portrait by Gregory Brown.
