Weekly Assignment: Street Photography

Get out of your comfort zone. Attempt to not use any automatic settings, at least not fully automatic ones, and get out and take some photographs in your town. Try out the different settings on the camera, and adjust the shutter and aperture to see what sorts of affects they have to your images. Do you like images with a little bit of blur, or do you prefer images that are fully sharp with plenty of depth of field? If you are using Aperture or Shutter Priority mode, make sure that you are able to quickly access the exposure compensation to change the darkness or lightness in the image.

While walking out near the fish market very early one morning, I saw the fishermen getting their fish smokers cranked up. The light level was low for outdoors, and shooting into the smoking booth’s vast blackness meant I needed to trick the meter because I wanted to make sure there was plenty of nice tone on the fisherman’s light-colored gear. The exposure here was taken at ISO 400, f/4, and 1/40 second with a 50mm lens.

Walking around in downtown Charlevoix, I spotted this gentleman. I tried to get this shot without him seeing, but.....he did- and made the shot.

A nice shot with some nice lines in it.  I'd be inclined to crop your photo just underneath speed limit sign just to draw more attention to the corner and the man in it.

I took this in the Melbourne CBD. The poster on the Tram was perfect.
