It was bright and sunny when I took this shot and given the bird.  I took it in colour but converted in black and white to show the contrast a bit better.  I metered off the concrete slab to make sure the detail of the bird was highlighted and so it wouldn't get caught in the shadow.  I've attached both versions.

Taken with a Nikon D7000 with a Sigma 17-70mm lens:

Focal length: 70mm (105 in 35mm)
Exposure Time: 1/1000
F Number: f/4
ISO: 100
Exposure Bias: 0
