2nd Assignment
«

My subject was a massive cottonwood tree standing at the union of a river and lake. I thought that the water would be a perfect background. I thought the sunlight would help the scene. Wrong.
After reviewing my images I was glad I took a picture from this angle. This image seemed to me project the strength of time and nature.

My eyes are immediately drawn to the base of the trunk in the bottom left third of the image - I think it's the light contrasted by the shadows. It grabs me and entices me keep looking up the tree where the contrast of light and dark branches and the bursts of colour from the leaves contrasted against the sky I think are really appealing to hold your attention.
It's a complex and simple image at the same time I think. What did settings did you take the photo on?

Awesome. I think it's the DoF that really makes this photo work well. It just keeps drawing you in to look further.

You've captured the majesty and strength of the ancient tree. I like the deep furrows of the trunk. Nice job!!!

Nice shadow play on the bark, with the blue sky. Angle suits the age of the tree.
