Hi, I am new to photography and learning to take better picture.  Please give me any comments that may help me improve.

This one was tough to do in February, in CT, with 2 feet of snow on the ground.  I finally settled on an interesting rock formation, so it's an intimate landscape shot anyway.  What attracted me to this particular feature was the lines and edges of the rocks are somewhat parallel to each other, except for the far right edge.  Then the snow and stone give a feeling of coldness.  The major tones in the photo, gray, white, and blue go together nicely.

My second shot is at the same location, on another side, so this is my botanical close-up.    I'm always fascinated by close-ups of living things, and I wanted to shoot the moss growing on the rock; the water drop happened to be a bonus.  I especially like the smooth texture of the moss juxtaposed against the rough granite.  And, of course, the tones of green and white make a nice contrast too.

Comments and suggestions are welcome!

Have to remember that background trick-nice!  Shots were really sharp too.

Wow!  Nice DOF in #3; like the wood (trellis?) in #4.

Great shots; love flowers too.  Nice compositions and exposures.

Nice shots!  I would have done the second in portrait orientation since the subject is mostly verticle.  Other great spots for flowers are the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum and the Tuscon Botanical Gardens.

You're right, the third one has the most pleasant lighting.  I'm thinking, though, that this is more of an "intimate landscape" shot than a "grand scenic".  The magic hours around sunrise and sunset are most appropriate for grand scenics, which have more wide open landscapes and thus more available light.

Wow, beautiful location and nice shot.  I like the car in there too, for scale.  I'm wondering how it would look if the sun were shining on it from the left, if that's possible.

I think in #3 I would have focused on the bee and flower he was on to make it really sharp.  I like shooting bees on flowers also.

Beautiful sky in the first, colors and texture in the second.  The third almost looks painterly.  Nice job!
