Title: Chapter 3 assignment (and then there was light)
Post by: NewMemories on January 13, 2011, 01:52:39 PM
I chose to take a reflection picture.  I've always been impressed with these (but not mine) and have been trying for a while to get a decent one.  The horizontal pic cuts off the reflection and the vertical one is blown out (what IS it with blond hair that I can't shoot in the sun?!) That being said, these are among my favorite pictures!

can you try dialling your exposure down a little to prevent blown out highlights? If it had a little more detail in the child that second shot would be fantastic!!!!

Love the composition of the second one, the reflection says it all! Too bad the child is somewhat overexposed.

These were the best of what I had.  I adjusted and adjusted the aperture and the speed and didn't get a better one before he moved to another place to play.  The first ones I took were completely blown and the next ones I had adjusted too much and it was all too dark.  I was getting it right, then the sun came out and blew him all out of sight!  :D

I also like the vertical one more, the reflection really stands out (whereas I could miss it in the horizontal one) and the top part of the pic matches the bottom one so well.

It's interesting about the blond hair - my daughter's hair is much darker so I never have this problem with her pictures (or actually I like it a lot how sometimes her hair comes out with highlights), but when I took some pictures of my niece whose hair is very light, I immediately noticed how hard it was not to get it overexposed! I did some portraits of both of them on that day, and my niece's ones didn't come out too well just because of this issue.

I would chose the second one, I like the idea.
NewMemories, do you remember what time of the day were you taking the picture? I'm sure if you take this picture before sunset it would be gorgeous!
