Title: Assignment 1 - 360 Degrees Post by: Pewik on April 18, 2012, 02:18:12 PM I was hoping to find lots of inspiring pictures in this forum. Seems that it needs to be populated with new ones?
Anyway, my first assignment is about an old log cabin the forest, abandoned a long time ago and slowly decaying. I liked the atmosphere in the place. Best regards/Peter Title: Re: Assignment 1 - 360 Degrees Post by: InspiringFotos on April 19, 2012, 08:50:34 AM Hi Peter - First of all I like how you chose to do these photos as black and white. I like the photo 1 and photo 2 the best. The first photo sets the setting of where the abanded cabin is and how large the structure is. The second photo is a up close of how old the cabin structure is. I like how you capture the nail stick out of the board.
Nice Work - Judy Title: Re: Assignment 1 - 360 Degrees Post by: Pewik on April 20, 2012, 12:18:07 AM Thank's a lot for your comments, Judy! Much appreciated!
Glad you agreed with me on the B&W decision. I chosed to so already in the camera, it seemed to emphasize the age, structure of the withered wood etc. I bumped up the contrast slightly afterwards to get deeper blacks, and also tried to recover the blown out highlights in the first picture (limited success there, I'm afraid). No other manipulations are made. Thanks again! /Peter Title: Re: Assignment 1 - 360 Degrees Post by: InspiringFotos on April 20, 2012, 08:32:28 AM Yes, I agree the B&W did bring out the age of the cabin and withering wood. Great job! What type of camera did you use for these pictures? If you like B&W photos, you should try some of the assignments in the Black and White Digital Photography book.
Title: Re: Assignment 1 - 360 Degrees Post by: Pewik on April 21, 2012, 02:33:34 PM Yes, I saw that title in the Photo Workshop series, and will definitively have a look at that one, after I spent some time with Blue Fiers book. If the B&W book is as inspiring and instructive as Fiers it's surely a must.
The camera that I use most of the time at the moment is a digital Fuji compact camera (X10). Not super compact, but small enough to be brought anywhere without hesitation. Yet it has an acceptable viewfinder and a lot of wheels and buttons for people who, like me, prefers buttons before menus. Cheers /Peter Title: Re: Assignment 1 - 360 Degrees Post by: InspiringFotos on April 22, 2012, 05:37:21 PM I have the B&W book, I will let you know how inspiring it is after I begin the first chapter.
