Title: Chapter 4: Limit Depth of Field
Post by: anne773 on February 08, 2012, 07:48:12 AM
I took this picture of an angel in a local cemetery.

Shutter Speed : 1/640 sec
Exposure: Aperture Priority
F-Stop: f/5.6
ISO : 100
Focal length: 50.0 mm

I wanted to isolate the angel from the background.

You've done a good job in isolating the angel statue from the background - wide aperture (widest you could on the lens you used) and getting up close as well.

If anything, you might have wanted a bit more depth of field.  See how the angel's wings and shoulder actually are soft?  I think you could have gotten away with stopping down further to get more of the angel statue sharp while keeping the background blurred out.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will try stopping down further on future shots. Your thoughts on my photos are appreciated!

Just another thought Anne.  I'm also a member of Cambridge in Colour (http://www.cambridgeincolour.com).  They have a much larger learning community forum there that can give you feedback on your other photos if you're interested.  That way you just won't be getting feedback from one person :)
