PWS is a very good learning site. I joined in 2003 and have learned a lot. Here is another site that has good answers to your questions also.

Thanks!  That Cambridge in Colour site was pretty good to - a lot of technical detail that I hadn't read about before.

Photoworkshop [PWS] has some good books on different supject and techniques also. At the end of each chapter it has an assignment to go out shot and post back on the PWS site. Have Fun, Learn, and Shoot a Lot.

I love reading and doing the assignment at the end of the chapters in the PWS books. It is a fun way to learn photography. I have about 10 of these books and enjoy each and every one of them.
