Title: Chap 2 Assignment : use of flash Post by: Ati on February 07, 2011, 04:02:26 AM Canon G11 integrated flash. Adjustment level -1 just to balance the contre-jour and give highlights to the marble.
I couldn't find any situation where the author's advice to 'blast a bunch of light' into an already bright scene did anything except wash out the foreground. You only mentioned Chap 2 Assignment.
Are we talking about "fill" lighting? If so you can read about here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fill_light Again check the Web on fill lighting photography. Keep in mind that most....if not all built-in flash are almost most like "shinning" a flashlight at a subject. Soooo! I would recommend that when the time is right....get you an external flash. I think they make one for the Canon G series. The external will give you much more control of the lighting. You can also acquire a "diffuser" from various vendors that fits the "shoe" on your camera and defuses the flash. I have one of these that works very well.
