Great Egret in morning

Photographer's Comment: What do you think of the low contrast? I was trying for a peaceful mood.

By smokeydawg (2007-09-12 23:46:28 ): I love the light and detail and contrast on the bird itself, for the bg I think others have had some good suggestions, vignette and maybe a gaus blur for the bg, but do it in layers and maintaint that wonderful detail of this beautiful bird. Nice pov for the bird also.

By somagni (2007-09-11 10:33:28 ): Wonderful shot. Personally, I'm a fan of high contrast but I think if you gave this a tighter crop the low contrast would work.

By maureenyoung52 (2007-09-11 02:02:14 ): I would think a levels adjustment would help a lot and vingnette the edges. This is really a beautiful picture of a beautiful bird.

By vdtconsult (2007-09-10 16:57:33 ): This is an absolutely beautiful bird and I think that the bird image is quite good. Yes, the background is distracting and a shallower dof would certainly have helped with that. If photoshop doesn't help, try the crop. It's not the best solution but it does help to eliminate some of the distraction of the background. Man, look at those feathers. Just how beautiful is that!!!

By photomato (2007-09-10 15:47:03 ): I love the composition, and these are some of my favorite birds, but the low contrast dulls the image for me. I would suggest keeping the contrast at a normal range, to accentuate the feathers, etc. and then trying some layers of the same image with a gaussian blurr or even experimenting with the blending options of those layers....a fun experiment at the very least. You may find something that works to achieve the results you are looking for. Another suggestion would be to use a lensbaby. Would vignette the edges and provide that peaceful mood, without interfering with the dynamics of this wonderful shot.
