By joedlh (2007-08-30 00:02:51 ): He was using a yucca plant in my front yard as a base of operations. He would fly off and come back in the same pose. So I moved closer with my Canon 80-200L EF-S and 1.4 extender. Moved around to put other yuccas and a hedge in the background. It's also a crop. A put a touch of unsharp mask on the tail. I fired off about a dozen shots. This was the best.

Everything that needs to be in sharp focus is in sharp focus (head, legs and wings), and everything that needs to be out of focus is out of focus. And just as important, the background colors complement the subject instead of working against it. Plecement in the frame is perfect. And look closely - You even got him to smile!
