Photographer's Comment: To somagni, smokeydown, vdtconsult,...: The wire (spiral), for the head of horse Jimmy, is a real part of the photograph. It stands as a symbol for freedom of people and captivity of animal or people. The wire accentuates also the eye of Jimmy. Its eye is as my lens, we look at both to each other, but Jimmy have been interested in the beep of the camera. For this reason he looks right in the lens,… Note for vdtconsult: The white background is no manipulatie it is a very slightly grey and fel white sky. Beside the mouth of the horse you can see the clouds. The brown "macula" (on the left side) is "possibly" a reflection in my lens, I have removed these (see my portfolio). Thanks for posted your critique

This John is one of the most expressive image I have ever seen. The symbolism the action and the eye contact between the artiest and the horse is captivating. I always thought that there are some parallels between the artist and the horse. They both are free sprits that are tamed by society, because they are so beautiful every one wants to own them. katia

By Jim915 (2007-08-04 12:40:23 ): John, I like this. The high contrast and over exposed areas combine with the two horses to create a visually interesting and attractive image.
By vdtconsult (2007-08-02 17:11:16 ): John, a very nice composite; a technique that I am trying (very hard) to perfect myself. I have a couple of suggestions. You have combined two images on two layers, I presume. They don't quite match up which is not necessarily a bad thing; except there is a break where there is no color; and there is bright white on the upper right of the image. Is it possible for you to mask the layer from the effects of the blending mode and "paint" back some color in the areas (especially the back of the horse) that don't have any? I would also like to see more of the second head, in particular the eye.

By smokeydawg (2007-08-02 13:38:44 ): Very nicely done John, very artistic! I like this a lot. Not to crazy about the spiral on this one though.
By Isachsen (2007-08-02 12:08:07 ): Oh no, I am so afraid that if you remove the coil, then the clear link between the horse and its spirit will vanish, and we'll only sit back with a "single" picture of a beautiful horse. Now, at least we are looking at a "double decker" horse - linked to its spirit in the coolest way (he, he!) So psst, John - don't remove the coil, but don't tell anybody that I said that.
By kayt663 (2007-08-02 11:41:40 ): this is really quite lovely and beautifully done...not a fan of the coil. I think it detracts from the image.
By Isachsen (2007-08-02 10:34:54 ): Hey, where is that white canvas - I can only see wonderful white mist in the background (he,he!)
By somagni (2007-08-02 09:52:44 ): This is really nice, John! A wonderful blend of the two images and I love the blank white canvas. I'm not crazy about the coil thing there. I think it takes away from this stunning image.
By Isachsen (2007-08-02 08:09:16 ): A fabulous piece of art. I especially like the way the two horse images blend into each other - or more that the upper part seems to hang in the air "escaping" from the lower one. The right hand side of the photograph has been turned into a lovely abstraction with a soft blend of colors and shades. Then we have the coil (cable?) to keep it all together - grounded( grin.) John, this is very inspiring!
