Photographer's Comment: Self portrait and trying out a new method of composition. The difference in appearances is intentionaly extreme to make a point. Still needs work but as usual, critiques are definitely welcomed

By Isachsen (2007-05-28 09:02:51 ): I have commented on this picture before and really like what I see. The combination of the two of you, with the shadow between, is just excellent. A very interesting picture that made me think (and that is not a bad thing!)
By tracyrose (2007-05-25 16:28:57 ): I love this one. I questioned whether it was even a mirror at first. I'd enjoy seeing some color versions along the same lines. The dichotomy in these are awesome.

By sfphotoviews (2007-05-01 20:58:13 ): I really like your experiment. It is thoughtful, intelligent and subtly executed. There are many interesting emotional layers in your self portrait.
By sjonesartist (2007-04-29 07:28:41 ): very creative... interesting how the 'feminine' shadow is reaching out toward the 'unfeminine' subject. (even though the 'feminine' subject is futher back, smaller, she still makes a very strong impression)
this is great. also love the title, choice of sepia tone, and composition.
By jimdstearns (2007-04-29 02:59:52 ): Very creative and there are two different moods here. I really like the shadow and facial expression. It goes with the two moods I see. I like the sepia also.
By Isachsen (2007-04-29 01:26:10 ): I think this is creative and like the idea. It takes some curage to make pictures like this one. The shadow on the wall between the "two" of you is also great, as it adds to the story. Cool!
By Jim915 (2007-04-28 12:57:24 ): In addition to the other comments, be aware of the shadows. You have two different light sources here. The frontal lighting on the FG image would not create the shadow seen in the BG. In fact, you can see the light coming from the viewer's left in the BG image. This is a typical problem when doing composite images with different light sources.
By smokeydawg (2007-04-28 10:54:29 ): Very creative way to do a self portrait. Agree with what has been said so far, nothing really more to add. I think you're onto something here, just a few minor corrections. Very good work, I like this.
By topazgraphics (2007-04-28 08:55:20 ): I agree with everything said. Just a few minor corrections would perfect what is a fabuously creative self portrait. Well done!
By DougWilkening (2007-04-28 08:19:09 ): A great concept! At first I thought it was two different people, mother and daughter, which also would have been a great concept as well. Maybe a more obvious or more decorative mirror frame would help, so as to emphasize the fact that it's a mirror. I think if you just clone out the mirror frame, some viewers will mistake it for a shot of two similar-looking people standing on either side of a cutout wall.
By kayt663 (2007-04-28 07:47:50 ): This is a really cool concept. Nicely done! I agree about the dark sides - I think it would be better to just crop them out. I didn't notice the frame at first but now that I see it, I find it a little distracting - could be cloned out fairly easily.
By somagni (2007-04-28 06:03:00 ): There is something very intriguing about this. I like the composition of the subjects (you) but the dark sides and the picture behind the head distract me. I love the shadow on the wall.
