Boats

Photographer's Comment: I took this at the Jalousie Plantation, between the two Pitons on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia. It just screamed at me to take a shot. Unfortunately, I had neither tripod nor monopod with me, and had to take it hand-held. Please critique, y'all....I have pretty thick skin, and am certainly willing to learn.

I cropped out the boat and raft in one version, but your idea would make it conform to the "guideline" of thirds, and would probably be better. I'll try that. Thanks, and thanks to your son for serving. (I drove past Hill AFB on Tuesday.)

The boat on the right is distracting; if you crop part of the top as well it should maintain a good balance between the hill and remaining tree withot the other distraction. This would really focus interest on the red boat and open sea. BTW, I too am retired (from USAA) and photography now consumes a majority of my time. My son is in the AF (went to USAFA) and we are just returning from a visit with him in Ogden (Hill AFB). One daughter is at Parkland Hospital finishing last year for TWU Nursing degree.
