Country road

Photographer's Comment: I have been gone for a while working on my photography studies. I have really missed this place. Here's a shot I snapped of my niece with my new Canon 5D. I played around with textures in PS and this is the result. Any comments or suggestions?

By yardbird (2008-08-01 18:21:39 ): I must apologize for sending you a suggested cropping of your photo. The "larger view" window opened leaving the disclaimer out of frame... I just saw it now. Please accept my apologies.

By yardbird (2008-08-01 18:00:12 ): The image concept is spot-on, however the blurring in the leaves above the girl is terribly distracting, and detracts from the over-all aesthetic of the image. The eye is drawn to that big, bright, green glob and not the intended subject... the girl. I understand you were working with an unfamiliar camera, I suggest you crop the image from a half-inch under the girls shoes to half-inch above the end of the canopy. It will help tremendously.

By dawnschubert (2008-08-01 14:01:02 ): Thanks Carlos.

By karmal (2008-08-01 03:11:23 ): Very nice composition and use of contrasts and colors in a way that produces a dreamy and painting effect. Usually the results under this difficult light conditions are disappointing, but you manage to overcome the difficulties. Carlos

By dawnschubert (2008-08-01 00:08:20 ): Thanks Tony, I was torn between the crop here and one you have suggested. I will post the other when I get a chance, thanks for your comment and suggestion.

By mahowel (2008-07-31 23:36:21 ): Very cool photo, great color as well. The only thing that I might try is to crop it right at the shadows right behind the girl on the ground. Overall very nice.

By dawnschubert (2008-07-31 22:05:27 ): Thanks Andrew, I really like the DOF here but I wanted to have a few to choose from. Thanka again for taking the time to comment.

By andrewmurrell (2008-07-31 21:34:19 ): Very nicely composed, and the depth of filed works re3ally well forthe image. Im glade ytou didnt know where the f adjustment on the camera was. I think the image woulde loose its impact otherwise.

By dawnschubert (2008-07-31 20:27:45 ): Thanks John. I had just recieved my new camera and when I was shooting in M mode I could not for the life of me figure out how to change the f/stop (I literally just took the camera out of the box)I wish I would have been able to change to a slightly smaller aperture so the trees wouldn't have been so blurred. I read through the manual twice and now know how to change the f stop in manual mode : ) thanks for looking and for your comment.

By johnwillems (2008-07-31 20:21:25 ): It's a very dreamy image and very nice to look at. I do like the composition with only the girl in the middle. Great "Summer-mood" and the use of the filter is here well choosen. It do me think on the impressionist-painters. Great!! John.
