By ktapio (2008-06-22 01:39:42 ): So I do have hope? Thanks Jan, I really appreciate all the help I get here. it is much easier for me to get it from you all than from reading it in a book. Carl, is usually great so is Carlos and Jim are so patient CJ and John boy all of you are wonderful and I am very grateful. Thanks many thanks.

By Isachsen (2008-06-21 22:22:56 ): Katia, that was silly of me. I have had problems seeing these data with some other picturs I looked at today, and must have ignored even checking it when looking at your photo. I was just so intrigued of how ell everything seemed to come together in this photo. Don't worry about not understanding all this technical ballyhoo. Just keep shooting and one day the releationship between aperture, focal lengths and shutter speed setings will be second nature to you. Rhat is why they call the mode P for Perfect (it really takes good care of business - he, he). I remember all too clearly myself walking around outside our house back in the early 1970 with a completely mechanical and manuel working Ricoh SLR, trying so hard to figure out this aperure and shutter speed stuff. It was like a great mystery. It took time, but now I am comfortable with it all (he, he). The most important is that you have a good eye for photography. Keep up the good work!

By ktapio (2008-06-21 18:42:10 ): Thank you Robert for the engorging comment.. katia

By ktapio (2008-06-21 18:20:03 ): Okay Donald I recognized the ones you pulled out of the data. But I am usually intimidated by list there and have hard time knowing the ins and outs. And when I try to put the same numbers in the camera to get the effect again it dose not work… tanks you for your kind help though. katia

By djon8 (2008-06-21 15:15:36 ): If you click on image data here, you will see most of what you want to know. Aperature:5.6 Shutter: 1/320, Focal length:55, ISO: 100. I'm sure PS will tell you the EXIF data. I use Paint shop Pro and it shows all the above and even what lens was used.

By robertb (2008-06-21 14:44:09 ): The dof, the colour, centre of interest - it all comes together very nicely.

By ktapio (2008-06-21 14:30:27 ): You are right Doug it was spontaneous but I have few different shots at the same time when I picked this one I had the feeling it was expressing a moment… thank you very much for the comment. katia

By ktapio (2008-06-21 14:27:08 ): Thanks Donald, this young man just looked as if he was the perfect model.. katia

By ktapio (2008-06-21 14:24:34 ): Jan you asked me the question I am scared of…(focal length and aperture) will you laugh at me if I said I do not know!!?? I am so ashamed I still till to day have no clue how to read the camera.. the more I read the manual and tutorials the more confused I am. I only know that I do many settings and shoot many pictures of the same seen thank god for the Digital world and the 4 Gs of memory when I come home I pick what I think I should keep. Some times I keep them all happy accidents… so the problem is because it happens so fast I do not write down what settings… and when I come to the computer I still can not figure the data… so call me stupid… may be some day I will be able to figure what the hell I am doing… katia

By Isachsen (2008-06-21 06:46:37 ): Yes, I can see that this is s wonderful moment - mostly thanks to the photographer. But I have also spent much time in the Amish part of PA so I can agree to your description of gentlemen. Now, I am a little curious what focal length and aperture you used here to achieve that cool and balanced depth of field? The soft background is beautiful and together with the straw hats and the muted green shirt give the picture with that special feel - as it all comes together so well for me here. Very well seen and captured!

By djon8 (2008-06-21 05:28:40 ): I like the differing angles of the hats. The young man looking down, elderly looking out. The young man seems to be working, the elderly talking. Lovely.

By DougWilkening (2008-06-20 22:48:37 ): I know this was a spontaneous photo, but I think it works partly because the two characters are well-choreographed. The way they lean away from each other, while their hands both point in the same direction, makes for a pleasing flow of lines.
