Jenna

Photographer's Comment: I was contacted by the local Autism Chapter to do a calendar for 2009 and help them raise funs. Jumped at the chance!!! I can only hope I do half as good as Charlie has. This was a candid shot yesterday at a walk in a local mall. Her name is Jenna. I want to give them the best I can, so any an all input is much appreciated. Thanks, Carl

By smokeydawg (2008-04-25 16:17:17 ): Thanks for the feedback Andrew, it is appreciated. I try to do what you talked about, insight, but this was also a candid, shot at a local mall and thought I did have some insight into "who" she is. But then again, I know her so that's cheating a bit. :) Would be more then open to suggestions on how I could accomplish this with this image better. Thanks Carl

By johnwillems (2008-04-24 16:21:01 ): Andrew, exactly, You based You on a single image, but these image is isn't a simple portrait made in the photo-studio. For me, it is a great portrait of a child, nice lighting, pose, the face of the child is wonderfull,... it speaks. Yes I find these image more than "simply", it's Simply Fabulous. Friendly from John.

By ktapio (2008-04-24 15:58:44 ): Yeeh! Sorry, this is not an acceptable answer! If you are critiquing an image that is a critique of that image! Why would you need to rate it according to a series. Plus, I beg to differ with you if you were not able to get the insight of the person because the image did do its message. Carl is taking these images for Autism what more expressive could this be….. If you read his note under the image you would have understood… I would like to welcome you to PWS and express my interest in your work you do have an eye and soul for art. That is why I felt the need to write this I was surprised at the answer you posted… katia

By agiovina (2008-04-24 15:06:06 ): Carl, I based my rating on a single image. The photo by itself doesn't tell me anything about the person. Perhaps if there will be a series it should fit in nicely as a portrait. Try to have the photos give us insight into the subject, not nessesarily as it looks but how does it feel

By smokeydawg (2008-04-24 13:55:03 ): Hi Andrew, I appreciate the rating, but apparently you rated this low, just wondering what you see in this that I may have missed and if you could possibly give me some feedback on it. Welcome to pws also! Carl

By smokeydawg (2008-04-19 14:59:01 ): Thanks Danilo, and welcome to PWS! She was actually in one of those little coin operated cars, and was captivated by the steering wheel and lights. I've tried several different crops on this one but hadn't thought square on this one, will try it also. Carl

By smokeydawg (2008-04-19 14:56:52 ): Thanks Dawn. I will probably post some more on my BV this weekend, will let you know in the forum when I do. Carl

By twadams (2008-04-15 04:24:24 ): beautiful

By karmal (2008-04-15 01:26:36 ): Awesome portrait with a strong emotional impact. Everything has been said about the top quality of this picture. I just sit and enjoy and imagine "what stories are running inside her mind ?"

By janith (2008-04-15 00:37:28 ): This is so beautiful, Carl. The soft light in the center of her face is just intense enough to highlight her faraway expression without being overpowering. The flyaway hair---especially the wisp over her eye---and the dropped blouse reinforce a 'could-care-less' attitude. And the semi-empty expression in her eyes really works for the autism theme. I wouldn't change a thing---you should be very proud of this!

By robertb (2008-04-15 00:00:34 ): An amazing photo. It grabs your attentions and holds it. It manages to bring out a very loving and caring emotion.

By somagni (2008-04-14 22:41:43 ): This is really exquisite, Carl. The far-away look of a child is captured so beautifully. Her unkempt hair goes so well with the shirt hanging off her shoulder. The lighting is awesome - I love the way the lip has that spot of highlight - kids are alway drooling!. Very well done!

By johnwillems (2008-04-14 20:39:09 ): Superbe photograph!! John.

By dawnschubert (2008-04-14 16:58:22 ): the lighting creates such a special mood here Carl. I really like the look in her eyes and the expression. Nice crop and composition and tones as well. I hope you will post more of this project-Dawn

By mensky (2008-04-14 15:10:38 ): A great shot, indeed. For me, the eyes say it all. It makes one wonder what she has in mind, what she is gazing at. The subdued colors add to the mood, very effective. One thing you might want to try and see if you will like the result is to have a tighter crop, say moving up the lower side of the frame just about at her neckline (dress) to form a square frame. Otherwise, it is an excellent photo as it is.

By ktapio (2008-04-14 07:54:51 ): What a moment you have stopped here. The eyes are so expressive. The colors are so rich. Carl? Which form will you use for the calendar? Keep that in mind when you shoot. The format of portrait or landscape make a difference and helps in the subject and directions choice. It seems you are on the right track. Good luck. katia

By sonoranhawk (2008-04-14 02:02:06 ): I like everything about this. The background color is great with her hair and skin tone. The look on her face makes you feel she sees something she wants, a look of anticipation. Great mood.

By lynnrider (2008-04-14 01:50:08 ): Absolutely lovely Carl! You captured a sweet look, I like how her top is coming down on one side - a very soft look.

By gvkohl (2008-04-14 01:44:41 ): I love this shot. Conveys a peace and innocence. For a candid the lighting is great. I think the overall sepia feel on this one is very nice. I want to give her a hug.I think it has a great emotional appeal.

By chomaee (2008-04-14 01:35:36 ): I like the sepia tone to this. Eyes are great
