Play-Back Mozart

Photographer's Comment: The photograph is a parody on the short life of Mozart. The children of the local basic school have posed for this photograph. The classroom was the studio with softboxes etc,… The "young Mozart" - the brilliant boy in the field of Music (middle - dark background), has written a small composition with notes and other funny things on the backside of the drawing,… He wanted amuse the little girls, just like the real Mozart did that with the women who came listen to its concerts

By johnwillems (2008-03-26 18:55:46 ): Yes Janith, it was a difficult job, not for the lighting or technique, but to let pose the childeren arround the thème Mozart. Not so evident for childeren from 8/9 or 10 years. The little girl with the violon did it very, very good. She was really the "Nar" in these scène. Thanks for Your great and appreciated comment and to take a view and for Your time. Friendly from John.(Btw: Your link with a Rembrandt-scène is amazing good seen!).

By ktapio (2008-03-26 18:23:23 ): Aha! I am not the only one then!! This image dose have the music in it and as if we come back to listen a little more. Wow! See John!?!? Do you have this effect on your students too???!!katia

By johnwillems (2008-03-25 23:58:49 ): Hello Diana, the children of the bassic school will be very satisfied with the pleasant responses!! Of course it's also for me a very great stimulation to make better photographs - such what we want all. Thanks again, Diana. From John.

By dianasanzone (2008-03-25 23:39:54 ): John, I can only add my very positive response to this image and my enduring appreciation of your creativity, in general.

By johnwillems (2008-03-25 20:06:02 ): Hi Linda & Chris, I am really flattered with Your comment. I visit Your B&V, and there are very great photographs to see such like “branches revised” – it's a very modern photograph with a great graphical mood – I do like it very much. Thanks again, from John.

By clwhitney (2008-03-25 19:53:22 ): Johm-I like your story and the interaction of the children. I find the composition interesting with the grouping of the children around the drawing.

By dawnschubert (2008-03-25 14:20:00 ): HiJohn! I am not sure how I have mised this image. This is really really cool! I have been sitting her examining it for several minutes now. It's a brilliant orchestra of lighting, composition, posing, and all the other technicals involved. You are an inspiration!

By ktapio (2008-03-25 07:23:19 ): Carlos I am going to let you in on a secret. When I looked at the Icon of John image I thought it was one of your works. It did not surprise me when I found out it was John’s I kind recognized his light in it. But the similarities between this image and the one you posted few weeks back and I really was impressed with too (concilium 2008-03-07) this kind of photography is what fascinates me and I hope I could one day have such a command over the camera to do WHAT I SEE just as you and John and Jan who I miss seeing his work. Oh there are quit a few such eyes around and all are very generous with their helpful tips. So you guys keep this art coming thanks always from katia

By fotostalker (2008-03-25 06:26:11 ): Stunning, John! As Katia and Carlos said, "magic. " Great composition, story and lighting! I am not as schooled in the arts/painters as some of our other members, but I can certainly respond with a resounding WOW when my eyes and my heart are touched by such a masterful image! Bravo!

By johnwillems (2008-03-24 22:58:28 ): Sorry correction: ... and there is not a flash placed in the background, the "BACKGROUND" becomes automatically dark,... Sorry from John.

By johnwillems (2008-03-24 21:28:57 ): Hi Janith, thanks for Your appreciation! The ligh in the class-room was off/out and the stores were closed. So the background was indeed very dark. When You shoot with prof. flashes on the the object (here the group), and there is not a flash placed in the background, the foreground becomes automatically dark. You can the same tecnnique see in some fashion-studio photograph's. With a correction-layer in the background (a little bit learn from Carlos), I made the background a little bit more darker and for accentuate the forground-scène and for accentuate or upgrade the mood. Fo me, A photograph isn't a replica of the nature of the reality. Thanks again and I'am happy that You get the thème. Friendly from John.

By johnwillems (2008-03-24 21:13:21 ): Thanks so very much Carlos for Your intelligent explanation/view. And indeed the lourd and on the same moment, the pretty/fun mood of these photograph is inspirated on the somber/pretty and short life of the Young Mozart, and "my instruments of light" - like You say it so wonderfully - are indeed inspirated on the "claire-obscure"-techniques (with less lightpoints) of the old flemisch painters. Thanks again, and I think what Katia has wrote, is is the same of Yours with other words. Friendly from John. BTW: the young girl violist is here "the Nar" in these scène.

By janith (2008-03-24 21:01:55 ): Very nice composition, John. Were all of the lighted areas achieved with the camera or did you darken some of the areas in PS? You know, it has a real Rembrandt feel to it.

By karmal (2008-03-24 20:56:56 ): A fascinating sonata for violin and instruments of light. I'm not a specialist in art but i dare to say that you are touched by the magic wand of the old flemish painters. Carlos

By johnwillems (2008-03-24 18:38:56 ): Thanks Katia for Your great comment. I do appreciate it very much. The eventually crop is not a good idea if You know that Mozart has a very "black periode". The really and Young Mozart is sitting between tne Young girls and the child-violiste. Friendly from John.

By ktapio (2008-03-24 04:38:35 ): When I see a photograph like this, I know why I want to polish my photography…… One can only stage a scene so perfect. But yet one has to be ready and know what one is doing to be abele to catch a moment so rich in feelings and life. Any one could be ready in a studio managing a photo to perfect it… only artist could catch it when it happens. Allow me john to rate this image before I am sure others are going to suggest cropping it and make smart remarks how to do things to it… I believe it is a rare image of a moment in time that you were ready and knew what to do. katia
