By smokeydawg (2008-03-21 12:58:37 ): Thanks Elizabeth

By smokeydawg (2008-03-21 12:57:47 ): Forgot, all the elements were right there, not a composite.

By smokeydawg (2008-03-21 12:55:54 ): Thanks Janith!

By smokeydawg (2008-03-21 12:55:27 ): Thanks Audrey!

By smokeydawg (2008-03-21 12:55:12 ): Thanks Linda!

By LindaJames (2008-03-20 17:05:08 ): A super photo. I like the ambiguity of not being able to tell if the person is facing towards or away from the viewer. Makes a different story either way. The toning and the color on the sign are done perfectly.

By audlee (2008-03-20 04:15:41 ): I like the mood and lighting here -- kind of a theatrical feel, similar to many of your images that I enjoy... and thanks for your shared info -- I'll have to cut and paste and learn more -- as usual...

By janith (2008-03-19 22:43:10 ): Were all these elements really in the same place? It seems to me like a composite image, but maybe that's because I've seen the building and the model in some of your other work. Very nice!

By za8et (2008-03-19 10:37:55 ): nice strong detail in the masonry against the simplicity of the figure - i get the impression he's arriving here with some trepidation, drawn onward toward the window at the back

By wilbs999 (2008-03-19 02:13:18 ): I love this. I like the other one, too, but I'm kind of confused about what a silhouette is. I like this better, because there is no detail in the face. There is, however, a starkness in the background, and the color in the dead-end sign is is a perfect offset to the person on the dead in. Beautiful.

By lynnrider (2008-03-19 01:23:10 ): Very cool Carl! I like that just the sign is in yellow - can't tell if the senior is walking towards or away from - either way tells an interesting story. Well done!

By smokeydawg (2008-03-18 13:55:36 ): Thanks Mo, Comp wise, I just liked what I saw in the viewfinder at the time, ps wise a couple of things, the pattern under the window in center was done with Lucis Arts plaid 3 filter set to 20-80. The bw conversion is called Totally Rad (http://boutwellstudio.com/totallyrad/examples.html) Old Skool action. It does the grain, bw conversion, and puts a small vignette around the edge. Then just did a mask for the dead end sign colorization on the "old skool" layer.

By mo (2008-03-18 12:39:07 ): Carl- this is great. I especially like the 'white' space in the upper right. I would love to know more about the making of this one.

By NowYesNow (2008-03-18 05:01:00 ): Carl, there's a nice sort of grainy "Ralph Gibson" quality, here. One of his books was called, "The Somnambulist"... a bit darker and edgier than this, but it comes to mind for me, when I look at this, for some reason. Here's a link to images from it: http://www.ralphgibson.com/archive/index.php?album=4 Fascinating, too, how you've put his head Right On that building corner, having him be Stuck IN that landscape.. part of it, inextricably. Such is the quality of Fascination, I guess.

By maureenyoung52 (2008-03-18 04:55:20 ): VERY interesting!! Very strong composition.

By EnterVortex (2008-03-18 04:10:09 ): One cool thing about this photo is that viewers will give varied stories to the image. What I see is a young man in a prison yard. Great job.

By karmal (2008-03-18 02:42:26 ): Another great image with a strong composition and an eloquent story. However, in this story I would like to see a silhouette not so imposing, I mean: more distant from the camera, giving less power to the human factor in the urban scape. Carlos

By Photolas (2008-03-18 00:36:11 ): I really like this one and I LOVE the Dead End sign at the low left. I could consider this a Fine Art image. Something you would find in a gallery. Great job.

By CJGroth (2008-03-18 00:35:46 ): I love the feel of this image, the darkness and feeling of anomie. I would like a little more detail in the person, I can't even tell if he's facing toward me or away from me ... actually, I guess that's kinda cool in itself. The "Dead End" sign and two windows are really nice, and cropping out the midtones great. Lots to like in this image.

By KF4sign (2008-03-17 22:57:46 ): Nice. But I wonder if it really needs the sign or the building on the left for it's emotional power.- Warren

By somagni (2008-03-17 22:45:58 ): kind of a depressing senior shot but makes a cool image and great silhouette!
