[ She will change the world,... ]

Photographer's Comment: My message for 2008 to young people is that they must try to shoot high-quality digital photos, as soon as possible. Emmanuelle, one of my students, try to make a good composition with her camera and want to learn more about digital imaging. Young people are very intresting in the techniques of photography and photoshop editing. There is again hope,… to “change” our world,... maybe with photography

By DianaShay (2008-01-26 06:52:27 ): Beautiful color and movement, John! The message is so true. I, too, am planning on working with students in the realm of digital photography in an after school program this spring. (I didn't even notice the strap under the nose thingy until I read Jim's comments! Yes, remove that if you can. Still.....a very lovely perspective.)

By johnwillems (2007-12-30 19:51:10 ): Hello Katia, thanks for Your great appreciation. The background is a "simple door" of a "class-room and not very important for the photograph. So I was moved the camera from the left-side to the right-side (I do remember me?), and so I becomes a natural motion blur like you can see in some other photographs (Jim - Paris, etc,...). You can also made two pictures, one totaly in motion (with the camera) eventually accentuated with a extra motion blur-filter - futher you make a second picture and "frosen" the subject. Mix the two and make one layer. Try it, it works for some thèmes very well. The technique isn't absolutely not new since upcoming digital imaging, photographers used these technique(s) and other techniques also with film in a classic and manual darkroom!Important is always (for me) that the greatest part of the photograph is and stay a real photograph! Friendly from John and have a great happy New Year.

By ktapio (2007-12-30 17:42:57 ): Superb John, thanks for the tip on how the photo came to be. One more question, did the photo have a back ground? Wish I was one of your students. katia

By leachy (2007-12-29 08:35:53 ): hey john. what can i say that has not been said already? great effect and even greater message!!!!!

By karmal (2007-12-28 02:31:43 ): Hi John. I like the symbolic combination of colours and of movement/stillness. You not only capture in a creative way the act of photographing but also the inner nature of photography. Carlos

By clwhitney (2007-12-28 01:52:47 ): John-I think this is both a very fine image and a very fine message.

By johnwillems (2007-12-28 00:11:53 ): Hi Bradley, effects are not so important in photography. They are just significant if the photograph obtains a better result or give the photograph a better mood or sense. The colours which I am used symbolise old & new values for young & old people (sepia for the old values, fuchia for the new). I try explain the used technique (more or less), it is a combination of an old and modern colour palet: The photograph has been treated in Capture One 4 (RAW-file) and was exported to Photoshop. I made two versions of the photograph in Photoshop, one in sepia and one in fuchia – a part of the fuchia layer was duplicated and burned into the sepia layer. The two layers were turned into one layer and was saved such as a JPEG-file and again exported to Adobe Lightroom. In this software you can control the colour values still better for some RGB colours of You can made a own colour-palette (also in Capture One for. It takes a little bit time but it is simply when it is done. Friendly from John and thanks for your appreciated comment and question.

By maureenyoung52 (2007-12-27 15:33:23 ): This is really wonderful. I think you have been very inspired by this student and the young people are our hope for a better world. I think you can both help each other.

By johnwillems (2007-12-27 01:57:55 ): I agree concern the "strap" - the girl was "moving" and it "flipped-up". Very difficult place to cloning out, but I shall try it and posted on my website. Thanks, Jim.

By Jim915 (2007-12-27 01:01:02 ): Hi John - I really like the special effects here. The blur and the composit of the BG is very effective, especially with Emmanuelle being in relatively sharp focus. I also like the color combination. I would suggest cloning out that piece of camera strap under her nose.

By darklighthouse (2007-12-26 22:07:28 ): Excellent in image and thought!

By steadyonabix (2007-12-26 16:07:09 ): As ever John very nice. How did you do this effect?
