If it looks like this, Don't Risk a Life

Photographer's Comment: Having lost a brother a long time ago to a drunk driver, and with the holiday season approaching, just thought I'd make a statement. If it looks like this, DON'T risk a life, take a cab, give up the keys. And no your car isn't trained, an no you can't really do it safely. This was a slow shutter speed, zoomed during exposure, using steering wheel to steady camera. Oh and the car was safely parked in the driveway while I did this. :) Only ps was low res conversion for upload.

By geingham (2007-11-23 01:15:02 ): Thanks for the reminder. I don't drink nor drive. I am sorry that you lost your brother that way.I do try to encourage those who do drink not to drive their vehichles. Your shot is fantastic. It looks like some time machine in a sci-fi movie. I like it.

By mo (2007-11-22 20:43:05 ): love it Carl- I almost missed it! it conveys a very scary feeling. very much a cautionary tale

By ClaytonAllen (2007-11-22 07:34:34 ): Well the Image speaks of something that has affected so many people across the globe. It's a horrible thing to hear about.

By Marina (2007-11-22 05:01:52 ): I am very sorry for your loss. The message in this image is so relevant. I love the image itself. The fan shape in the thumbnail first caught my attention, then I opened it and realized what it was. Everything works for me in this, the composition, exposure, colors, technique, and the impression of speed and lack of control. Excellent!

By carkins47 (2007-11-22 03:04:19 ): Way to make a statement. I also lost a brother to a drunk driver - who had been cited previously for DUI. The effect demands attention. Applause.

By smokeydawg (2007-11-20 20:17:38 ): No risks here, the car was safely parked in the driveway. :) But yea, I've taken a few risks in the past to get a shot and probably will again in the future. Thanks Jan.

By MicheleMiller (2007-11-20 20:14:59 ): Powerful message.

By Isachsen (2007-11-20 20:10:28 ): The message is crystal clear - a brilliant "don't-drink and drive" picture. On the other side, how many time haven't we all taken the most unbelievably stupid chances to get a picture? This photo is just so incredibly cool!

By efujii (2007-11-20 19:22:19 ): Wow, Carl you got a real winner here. What a fantastic image. I like the colors, the perfect technique, and the message.

By ktapio (2007-11-20 18:00:29 ): Impressive shot. You guys will never stop to amaze me! After every shot I go running to my books and read. Trying so hard to catch up….Now if this is your car odometer you must drive as wiled. May the angels protect you. Oh, I read your remark, sorry about you brother. Hope your massage gets through. katia
