Sorry, Just Another Boring Wed Shot

Photographer's Comment: Actually from my son's wedding this last weekend, got to admit it was nice for a change to just be an onlooker and be able to enjoy the day. Wondering what you think, to much color, do the leaves at top distract? Your feedback and honest opinions are always apprectiated. Thanks in advance! Carl

By smokeydawg (2007-11-13 14:13:15 ): Thanks for the time and comments Jim. I wasn't sure about taking this so far with the saturation and contrast, it was for son and his new wife, they really liked some recent senior stuff I did, printed on metalic paper and asked if it was possible, to do that effect on one of the shots I got from their wedding.

By smokeydawg (2007-11-13 14:10:16 ): Thanks Bob, this was basically an experiment with this filter, I don't usually carry things this far with wedding shots. But since it was my son, it gave me a good excuse to play.

By smokeydawg (2007-11-13 14:06:15 ): For the most part Jill, I use a lab. Probably 90%. I print a few things mostly for my own use around the house, but I'm just not that much into printing. Maybe when I get bigger and can hire someone to do it for me. :) You might ask Charlie Coutino or Dan (Fotostalker) if they know of any metalic, I know they do a lot of their own printing. A friend of mind, did mention a place he found some at, but can't remember where he said it was. I do remember him saying it was pricey though.

By BobBarnes (2007-11-13 11:11:37 ): You did a nice job on this! I usually do not like the end results of this type filter. I bet they like it also. well done. bob b

By vdtconsult (2007-11-13 10:14:24 ): Carl, do you do your own printing? If you do, can you tell me what "metallic" paper you used? I do all my own printing but I haven't seen anything that's for a fine print that's metallic.

By smokeydawg (2007-11-13 03:58:57 ): Thanks Maureen for the comments and time. I printed an 8x10 before I printed it big, but it turned out great on the metalic.

By smokeydawg (2007-11-13 03:56:22 ): Never could paint, but hard to resist with ps sometimes. Thanks for the feedback and the time!

By smokeydawg (2007-11-13 03:54:19 ): Thanks Cheri!

By smokeydawg (2007-11-13 03:53:24 ): Thanks Jill, I really appreciate the feedback.

By smokeydawg (2007-11-13 03:52:50 ): Thanks for the feedback Chris, plan to give this to them as a present.

By Jim915 (2007-11-12 21:57:33 ): Carl - The light is splendid and I like the way the tree branches frame the photo. I do think the colors are too saturated. You have this splendid light and soft focus accompanied by colors that are jaring within the context of the entire image. I'd reduce both the saturation and the contrast.

By maureenyoung52 (2007-11-11 15:13:41 ): I love it! Very "gone with the wind". I think the metallic paper would be PERFECT! Let me know if you do print this on the metallic paper and how it comes out. Very creative!

By smokeydawg (2007-11-10 02:34:03 ): LoL, don't worry about the spelling. Appreciate you pointing out that spot, I totally missed it. I was thinking of giving them a big print as a present, maybe on metalic paper.

By mo (2007-11-10 01:52:07 ): wow I was asleep writing this one- where is spell check when a girl needs it?!

By smokeydawg (2007-11-09 23:33:21 ): Used a new action called Deep Forest, from Kubota Artistic Vol 3, I now have all 3 voumes. It basically deepens the darks with curves, and boosts the saturation, it also does a surface blur.

By BeatriceFriedli (2007-11-09 18:34:18 ): do you want to paint or do photography ? ha ha ha! kidding. Generally, I'm not a fan of this. But, it is very nice ! The colors are beautiful. Love this time of year. Great framing of the couple ! Normally, above leaves like that are distracting. But... not in this case because you have a nice long line flow down towards the whole image and not just a blurb on top. It works nicely. It's very nice ! It works, I like it. Again, congrats !!

By photobee72 (2007-11-09 04:16:37 ): This is definatley not boring!!! I love the effect! I would crop just below the leaf on the top left corner. I think the colors work well together! Great work Carl!!! What effect did you use?

By chomaee (2007-11-09 02:49:29 ): very nice Carl, I like the painting effect. For me the leaves lead me back to the couple.

By mo (2007-11-09 01:15:41 ): this is beautiful Carl-I like it as is- I think the sky and tree add to it. the feeling I get is of one of those huge paintings in old ansestral homes....in other words- print it BIG! -one small thing- just left of her veil it seems a bit more blurred than elsewhere?- it catches my eye

By clwhitney (2007-11-08 22:46:48 ): Carl-this one is very painterly. I like the leaves acting as a natural frame and I like the position of the bride and groom. The colors and lighting are very nice. This would look great framed and hung in their home.

By vdtconsult (2007-11-08 21:52:52 ): Hey Carl. As we say, Mazel Tov on your son's wedding. It looks very painterly which I think is very nice. And, I think that the colors are very beautiful. I tried this crop - not sure if you like it. (Not sure if I like it but we are limited) I like the leaves hanging down but I think that you had too much "top" to the picture. Maybe you could clone some of those scraggly little twigs and the green leaf on the left and THEN I think you may have yourself a grand picture.
