Foreboding

Photographer's Comment: I think I'd like a little more contrast on this pic, but then I start to lose the detail of my clouds, especially on the left side just above the dunes.

By tjvphotography (2007-10-21 16:39:37 ): thanks for the comment... I'll see if I can do anything about the detail in the areas you mentioned.

By maureenyoung52 (2007-10-21 15:24:12 ): I think there is plenty of contrast. If you want to play with this image in just certain areas you can use the levels and adjust ,probably the middle slider, for whatever area you are unhappy with then click back in your history and click the little box on the left next to the levels in the history list. Then use your history brush to "paint" back in the detail you have lost or higher contrast in the clouds or whatever you want to change. I don't know if this makes any since to you and always save the original before you start playing with an image like this, also use a soft brush and if you want to do this non-distructively use a different layer for each change, just make sure you have it clicked on the right layer, it can get confusing. Nice image, by the way.

By fotostalker (2007-10-21 01:49:29 ): I like this a lot but wish somehow for a little more detail in the foreground and the horizon -- at least the top of the hill -- at pretty much center is bothering me just a bit. If you want to play with contrast a bit, try using the laso tool in PS (if you're using PS) and do your contrast selectively (make your selection and then click on the adjustment layer of your choice and the mask will be created according to your selection). I do think, though, that your sky as it is is very powerful and dramatic -- you may want to see if you can get a little more detail out of the currently "blown out" portion of your sky if it is still there, but I don't think that part is too distracting at this point. Nice moody image right now and love the inclusion of the branch in the foreground! Peace, Dan
