Assignment: Capture a Real Moment 1

Don't be bashful! If you want comments, give comments. You don't need to be an expert photographer to express your opinion about the work of others. You don't need to go into great depth. A simple remark about cropping, composition, color, subject matter, etc. can be of just as much help to a budding photographer as an in-depth critique.

For this assignment, bring your camera and take one or two kids to a park, or even the backyard. Have some fun — laugh, run, spin the kids around, and roll in the grass. Or bring a toy or game that helps them forget about the camera. It might help to have a friend assist you. Follow the kids’ actions and capture candid shots from different angles. Choose your most compelling image, post it online at pwsbooks.com, and tell me why you like it.

To complete this assignment, I diverted Alvin’s attention by playing with soap bubbles in the backyard. He was mesmerized with catching the bubbles, which made it easy to capture an authentic expression in this image. Taken at ISO 800, f/3.5, 1/250 sec. with a Canon macro EF 50mm f/2.5 lens.
